Time    :      3.00pm – Registration

                    3.30pm – Annual General Meeting (for members only)

Agenda

  1. To read and adopt the minutes of the 32nd AGM
  2. To read and approve the Annual Report of 2017-18
  3. To read and approve the Accounts for the year ending December 2017
  4. To elect the Executive Committee for the term 2018-2020
  5. To discuss any proposals or resolutions
  6. Any other matters

There will be a CPD session preceding the AGM at 2.00pm for all members.

*Any resolutions to be put forward must be put in writing with a proposer & seconder to the secretary by 13th July 2018.

*The annual secretary report & the annual financial report will be e-mailed to the members and will be provided during the AGM. The reports will also be made available on our MAAM website (manipal.org.my). Those who intend to have a hard copy of the reports, you can kindly request us to send it to you. Secretary’s Report 2017-2018

The executive committee continued office from 22nd April 2017 after the Annual General Meeting and since then have had 15 committee meetings.Our meetings are fixed for the first Saturday of every month.We co-opted 5 ordinary members to help with the programmes and plans for the new term.This includes Prof Dr.Philip George,Dr.Thomas John,Dr.Mohandas Nair,Dr.Gayathri K Kumarasuriar and Dr.KV Nesamani. Each executive committee member had been given a portfolio to oversee and report during committee meetings. Prof.Dr.Jaspal Singh (MMMC Dean),Prof.Dr.Somsubhra De (MMMC) and Prof.Dr.PLNG Rao (MIU Vice Chancellor) have been co-opted to have a good working relationship between MAAM and MMMC & MIU. 

 

Following are the activities conducted by the executive committee :

31st MAAM Convention

The 31st Convention of Manipal Alumni Association Malaysia (MAAM) was held in a grand manner on 15th & 16th September 2017.The event also celebrated the 20 years of Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC).The convention consisted of 2 major events which was the Sports Carnival & Gala Dinner.Dr.Siva (Secretary) was the organizing chairman.

The Sports Carnival which was a huge success was held for 2 days on 15th & 16th September consisted of mens futsal,womens futsal,mens basketball,tennis,badminton,table tennis,sepak takraw & bowling.All the games were held in UiTM Sports Centre,Shah Alam except for bowling which took place in Brem Mall,Kepong and the futsal tournaments which took place in Sports Garage,Petaling Jaya.Total of 4 contingents from the Manipal group took part in the sports carnival who were MAAM,Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC),Manipal International University (MIU) & Manipal Hospital Klang.Great addition to our Sports Carnival was the contingent from Bar Council.

The Reunion Dinner took place on 16th September 2017 at Eastin Hotel,Petaling Jaya.It was an informal night carrying the theme “Denim & Diamonds”.Around 330 people attended the dinner and it was a good turnout of both junior & senior alumni.Representatives from Manipal Alumni Relations,India & staff of MMMC,MIU & Manipal Hospital were also present to grace the occasion.

 

Manipal Run 2017

For the very first time MAAM organised a charity run which was a public event.The theme of the run was ‘Special run for special needs children’. The run was held on 12th November 2017 in Cyberjaya.The main sponsors for the run were Manipal Hospital Klang,MMMC,MIU & Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS). Other co-sponsors were Lenovo,Yakult & 100 plus.

The run was a huge success in which around 800 people participated.Our chief guest was the sports icon Tan Sri Dr.Mani Jegathesan who kick started the event and also gave away the prizes. Around 30 ex national athletes also took part in this event notably M.Ramachandran, B.Rajkumar and S.Saravanan.The profit from the run was presented to the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) and Autism Café Project.

The organizing chairman Dr.Nyanakalaiwani and the organizing secretary Dr.Siva also appeared on the show Nine to 11 on Bernama News Channel to promote the run.A press conference was also held on 20th October 2018 in Olympic Council Malaysia to promote the event.The press conference was graced by Datuk Peter Vellapan (former AFC secretary general). Major dailies such as The Star,News Straits Times & Tamil Nesan carried the news of our run.

One big achievement was our association was nominated for the autism awards Anugerah Dari Hati ke Hati by Bank Rakyat.

 

CPD

MAAM Mid Year Primary Care Seminar was organised on 30th July 2017 in Setia International Centre,Pantai Baru,Kuala Lumpur.It was free for the members and was a half day event.Dr.Koh Kar Chye was the organizing chairman and the speakers were from our alumni.60 people attended the event.CPD points were awarded.

 

MAAM Abdominal Ultrasound Workshop was organised on 24th June 2018 in Manipal Hospital Klang.It was free for the members and was a full day event.The organising chairman was Dr.Apsara Panicker from our alumni and the speakers were from our alumni too.30 people attended the event.CPD points were awarded.This event was supported by Manipal Hospital Klang & Active Scientific Sdn.Bhd. 

 

CPD endorsed by MAAM

A total of 37 events has been endorsed by MAAM till end of July 2018.Every endorsement is RM500.Following is the companies that has obtained endorsement from us :

3) Hyphens Pharma Sdn Bhd – 2 CPD

4) Mundipharma Pharmaceuticals – 1 CPD

Manipal Alumni Science & Health (MASH) Journal

The editorial board is headed by Prof.Dr.Philip George and he is assisted by 5 sub-editors from MAAM,Melaka Manipal Medical College & Manipal International University.The executive committee decided to incorporate faculty of dentistry and faculty of engineering & science into the journal to make it more complete & accomplished. The peer review committee consist of our Alumni from all over the world in all specialities.

We have obtained the ISSN number from Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka. ISSN for our journal is 2500-3977.The volume 3 of the journal was successfully published in May 2018.The editorial board is planning to publish two volumes per year the coming term.

 

MAAM Sportivo

The MAAM Sportivo which was launched in January 2016 as a bi-monthly sports event to get the Alumni members together has been continued and has become a monthly event now since 2017.Futsal & Pool are the two sports that has been successfully organised under the Sportivo banner.Our football matches are normally held in RRI Field,Sungai Buloh while our pool matches are normally held  in Interlude,Taman Tun Dr.Ismail.

For the football matches we also give an opportunity to the students from MMMC & MIU to join the team as it serves as a great exposure to them about our alumni. One of notable achievement of our football team this year was beating Majlis Daerah Hulu Selangor 2-0 on 17th March 2018 in Stadium Mini Kuala Kubu Bharu.

The pool team has also done considerably well.Among the notable wins were against Royal Commonwealth Society in 2017 and against Kelab Aman which was on 4th May 2018 in Interlude,TTDI.

 

Howzit Newsletter

The editorial board is headed by Dr.Koh Kar Chye.The 27th volume of  ‘Howzit’ was published in June 2017 and the 28th volume of  ‘Howzit’ was published in May 2018.From the 27th volume the newsletter is not printed out but is available on our MAAM website. The editorial board is planning to publish two volumes per year the coming term.

 

Programmes with Melaka Manipal Medical College

MAAM organised a very successful CPD “Housemanship Kit” with MMMC on 2nd June 2018 in the Melaka campus.This event was held to enlighten the final year students about the housemanship world that they will be facing once they graduate.5 speakers from alumni who are graduates of MMMC gave their inputs in the programme which was divided into a very interactive forum and small group discussion sessions.150 students attended the programme.

The alumni also participated in the Post Graduate Fair which was held on 17th March 2018.5 of our alumni from different sub specialities were speakers at the fair.We would like to thank the Student Council of MMMC for these collaborations.

Motivation Monday

This project was started in an attempt to motivate younger Manipalites especially students and also to showcase the achievements of our alumni.This is being done in collaboration with the student council of MMMC in which one alumni is being highlighted every Monday in the Facebook page of MAAM & MMMC.This project was started on 21st May 2018 and going on successfully every week.

 

Membership Card & Benefits

The current number of members stands at 1272 life members. This is an increase of 259  members from last years AGM which was at 1013 life members. There are currently 1571 student members from MMMC.

The executive committee did a final membership drive from January to March 2018 by contacting the younger alumni to join MAAM as life members.The drive was a success and we are also working on to get the students member to convert to life membership once they graduate.It is to note that the life membership fee has been increased to RM500 (single) & RM750 (joint) effective 1st April 2018.

MAAM Website & Facebook page

The website has a new look.There is a picture gallery which will allow members to log on and view and download the pictures of all our events.All our monthly events are updated on our website and you can access to our MASH journal & Howzit newsletter. Dr.Roshan (Vice President) manages the website and he has also created a smartphone application for MAAM which can be downloaded for free.Apart from getting information from the website, the Facebook page also updates all the happenings of our association.Dr.Siva (Secretary) manages the FB page.

RE : CONSTITUTIONAL AMMENDMENTS FOR 33rd MANIPAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MALAYSIA (MAAM) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2018

 

1) To amend point No.1.1 of article III (Membership)

Current : Membership shall be opened only to graduates from Manipal University

and who are Malaysian citizens. A joining fee of RM500.00 will be levied

for this membership.

Proposal : Membership shall be opened only to graduates from Manipal University

and who are Malaysian citizens. A joining fee of RM500.00 will be levied

for this membership with the exception of Manipal students who were our student members and who have just graduated and are pursuing their housemanship or equivalent.A joining fee of RM200.00 will be levied and this shall be applicable for 3 years after their graduation.

2) To amend point No.2 of article I (Place of business)

Current : There are two different addresses in the Malaysian Registry of Societies.The registered address is 74, Jalan Telawi Lima, Bangsar Baru, 59100 WP Kuala Lumpur and the postal address is Surey Plastic & Cosmetic Sdn Bhd, Suite 4.04 4th Floor, Menara Promet, Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 WP Kuala Lumpur.

Proposal : Change of these addresses to a single reference address for both registered  and postal address which is Poliklinik Roshan, 5-1, Jalan USJ 9/5M, Subang Business Centre, 47620,Subang, Selangor D.E.
